I've always heard that time flies when you're having fun, but I also know that time flies when you are stressed. I open a bill at the mailbox and think, "didn't I just pay that?" Of course, when you wait until the last possible moment to pay the last month's bill, they do tend to run together. Thank goodness for online bill pay, is all I have to say. I do have a few handy excuses...all of them true... in my back pocket in case I have to call a company and plead my case.
1. I have post-partum memory loss, which is why I sent the envelope and the invoice...with no check.
2. My child chewed the portion of the bill with your address on it...which is why I have to pay by phone.
3. I mixed up my husband's account with my business account...even though they are sponsored by two different banks in two different towns... which is why there was only two cents in the account and the check bounced.
4. I didn't realize I was supposed to get a confirmation e-mail... which is why I had no idea there was an internal error on your side that caused my check not to go through.
Needless to say, a personal accountant would probably be a wise investment. And saving on late fees would probably pay for their salary. On the other hand, I might miss out on the adventure of it all.
